You will have to take this review with a grain of salt. I purchased this to carry in the back of my SUV. I have not, and probably never will use it as a "sleeping bag". I slept in this sleeping bag once at 50F. (That's 50F measured on a thermometer. Not guessed at.) Even wearing long johns and a sweatsuit I was a bit cold. In the middle of the night I got up and put on a pair of insulated overalls. Then I slept warm. I'm an old man and pretty sensitive to the cold. Maybe a younger, fitter person would have been warm enough. But, I'd warn anyone going camping in below freezing weather to test this bag ahead of time. You could avoid an awful night.

On the plus side, there's plenty of room in the bag. And the bag handles moisture very nicely.

Finally, the bag is well constructed and claims to be washable. (I've had bad experiences trying to wash down filled items. Polyester fill seems to wash OK.)

I'm not sure if I'd buy another one.

I purchased this bag online because of Slumberjack's reputation for backpacker-friendly bags (and also the price). I get very cold at night and need a low temp bag even on pretty warm nights. I bought this for backpacking but this bag is so incredibly bulky that it will not fit into my backpack. I can't even tie it onto the outside. It seems warm, though. If you're planning on backpacking with this backpack, I would recommend something that stuffs MUCH smaller. The bag had some nice features to keep me warm on a 37º camping night: footbox (zipper ends about 1/2 ft from the bottom of the bag), head cover with pillow pocket (my small 1' x 1' pillow fit inside and the velcro flap kept it under my head the whole night), and warm fill.

The color is steely gray and minty green with a two-way zipper with pulls on the inside and outside. The comfort range is tropical, 40ish to 70s, but I think I'd want an extra liner or long johns for the 40s.

This bag is very warm and is rated down to 30 degrees F. If zipped, it can be used as a sleeping bag. Unzipped, you can use it as a very warm blanket. I would recommend using it as a bag below 45-50F. From 45-50F to 60-65F probably best to use it unzipped as a warm blanket. If you use it as a bag with ambient temperatures too high, you will surely sweat. I bought it mainly because the shell is cotton. The material is very nice and soft to the touch.

After using it over a two week period, I would like to share my thoughts on improvement. First, the zipper is way too flimsy for this type of application. When you are trying to keep from becoming cold in outside weather the last thing you want to be doing is struggling with a small and hard to use zipper in the dark. I say charge me 2 dollars more and give me a real zipper that is large and that zips and unzips easily under any circumstances. (I would suggest that you don't underestimate the importance of a proper zipper in any sleeping bag application.)

The other observation I would like to make relates to the size of the bag. I'm a fairly small person (male 5'9" 145 lbs.) and yet I found this width sleeping bag used in the "bag" mode a little difficult to use (too hard to turn and maneuver yourself inside the bag). If you feel the same, I would recommend a wider bag. However when used as a blanket, this bag is plenty big enough.

In conclusion, this bag is really nice for the money except for the weak zipper. We have three of these bags and the whole family fits them just fine. They're heavy and bulky but work fine when you have a truck to carry them. They're great for camping but obviously not for backpacking. The main problem is the insulation just isn't that good for all the bulk. I had a 0 degree bag from Marmot that was totally comfortable at 20 degrees outside in the snow (on a foam pad). On the other hand, this 10 degree bag is cold when it's 40 degrees on a foam pad in a tent. My wife was cold at 50 degrees. I was expecting the 10 degree rated bag to be comfortable down to 30. There's no way I could convince my family to sleep in this at that temperature, which has turned my family off camping for several months out of the year. The Marmot bag, which was down, was good 12 months of the year. It worked from 20 degrees to about 80 degrees just as well. Down is great that way. People might buy this bag for their kids because they believe it's more capable than a "sleepover" bag. It's more rugged maybe. For sure, it is lightweight, and feels great. I couldn't quite get it up over my head; too much wiggling required and not enough room in my women's mummy bag to manage that feat. I'm a short but chunky gal, so the Expedition was a bit too snug for my liking when my arms were straight by my sides. Instead, I pulled it up to my shoulders, tucked my arms inside near my chest, and was very comfortable, as it only feels too narrow around the hip area. There was lots of leg and upper body room (felt downright luxurious puddled around my feet). It turned with me inside the mummy bag, and I never felt twisted up. Could tell a difference if I did not pull it over my arms, so there's for sure an added warmth factor. Used it with a 15+ bag next to a north Texas lake in March for four nights, with overnight temps in the low 50's and slept soundly. Never thought I'd get it back into its little stuff sack, but it went right in without problem. I read a review elsewhere that stated in hot weather it actually felt cooler to sleep with it rather than without due to the bags wicking qualities. Hence, I'm looking forward to using it alone as a summer bag when temperatures soar to 90+ in a few months. Cheap High Peak Summit 20 Degrees Sleeping Bag

I just bought this bag to be used this spring/summer/fall for backpacking. It arrived before the estimated shipping date and was packaged very well.
The bag comes in a tight compression sack that is easy to strap onto a backpack or stuff inside. It took a little strength to get the bag out!
Once opened, the bag fluffed up nicely. It is a nice size and fit overtop my Thermarest very well.
It has some nice features. Not only is it very comfortable and warm, it also has a nice head/neck area. It's pretty cushy in the hood, so you might not need a pillow if you are not too picky. I put my Thermarest pillow in there and it was excellent. To add to this, there is a 'scarf' of sorts sewn into the neck area of the bag. It has it's own draw string (in addition to the draw string on the hood itself) and makes it nearly impossible for cold air to get into the bag. There is also a velcro section on the 'scarf' and one over the zipper at the head/neck area.
The bag is a great size. Both me and my boyfriend (5'6'' and 5'10'' respectively) fit in it comfortably with enough room to turn and sleep on our sides. Like I mentioned, it fits over the Thermarest Pro Lite, with a little room off the end.
The only thing negative I have to say about this bag is that it is not exactly 'easy' to bundle yourself into it. Being that this is my first mummy bag, I would assume all mummies are this way. It was pretty easy to zip it up, but once it was up it was a little tricky to pull the drawstrings and velcro it all up tight. Someone else could do it for you, but then how would they get into their own bag? Anyway, it's a minor inconvenience and does not make this bag any less amazing.
Lastly, for the price, how could you not buy this bag!

This bag is outstanding! I bought a large for an oversized sleeping bag (Eddie Bauer 15 degree with shell and hood ) and once I wrestled it in there, it was less than 1/3 the size. It is very light and very tough. I didn't think something could be so well made but look so light and fragile!

My only problem is that it took me 20 minutes to get the thing in! The mouth of the bag is just too small for the job. I bought an XXL from Granite Gear and now I use the large size for the rest of my soft gear.
